Medina Baskets, or Medina Mercantile, is a small, family-run business that, for many years, has worked with the artisans of Ghana. Through Kingdom Life Ministries, a Roanoke, Virginia group, Medina has worked with local weavers in Ghana to provide home-based production of baskets made from sustainable sisal, as well as supporting community schools and hospitals. Although this is a traditional craft, Medina has designed items for the modern home, combining the skills of the traditional artisans with the aesthetic perspective of the contemporary market for a successful partnership between rural communities around the world and distributors in the United States. All products and labor are fairly traded and no child labor is exploited.
